Acne During Pregnancy!

Treating Acne During Pregnancy Can Be Awkward but You Can Learn How to Get Rid Of Acne Safely With the Help of Mother Nature Right Here!

Being pregnant is a wonderful experience for many women. Some are lucky to have that pinkish glow that makes them look radiant while others feel absolutely miserable because of the reappearance of acne on their skin, acne that they have not experienced since adolescence. Around 85 percent of women are affected by acne during pregnancy. This skin condition usually occurs during the first to second trimester of pregnancy and is caused by hormonal changes that are taking place due to pregnancy. So, if you’re pregnant and you’ve got acne I’m guessing you want to know how to get rid of acne safely during your pregnancy, right?

Unluckily for you, acne can be hard to treat effectively during pregnancy because most of the common treatments available can be harmful to the unborn fetus. Some over the counter acne antibiotics are not at all safe to be taken during pregnancy as they can cause birth defects or even miscarriage, so it is always a good idea to get some advice. If your acne really bothers you, and you can’t leave treatment until after your pregnancy then you should consult a dermatologist before you take any medication. Never purchase and take any drug whilst you are pregnant without consulting your doctor.

Acne Treatment Medications to Avoid During Pregnancy

There are some acne treatment medications that have specific ingredients that should be avoided completely during pregnancy. These ingredients include Tetracycline, Accutane and Retin-A.

  • Tetracycline – According to some health professionals, Tetracycline should not be taken to treat acne during pregnancy as this antibiotic can cause teeth discoloration and inhibition of bone growth in a fetus.
  • Accutane – Based on some studies, around 25 to 35 percent of infants who were born to women with Accutane exposure during their first trimester manifested birth defect patterns. These include central nervous system defects, heart defects and cranio-facial defects. An increased miscarriage risk and infant death has also been linked to Accutane use during pregnancy.
  • Retin-A – While less than ten percent of Retin-A passes into the bloodstream of the mother it still reaches the baby, the prescription cream still holds warnings against use by pregnant women although there is no concrete evidence to suggest any adverse effect. It is always best to discuss such use of acne treatment cream with your dermatologist before applying anything but if the makers attach a warning then that should be warning enough!

Women who are suffering acne during pregnancy usually suffer from increasing stress that in turn causes an outbreak of acne. It may be difficult but the best thing you can do is to avoid becoming so stressed! Ask your doctor what exercises or techniques he would advise that would help prevent yourself from thinking too much about your acne. Also, consider some home remedies that can help you prevent and cure acne like following simple cleanliness routines and having a healthy diet.

I shouldn’t need to mention this but drink lots of water everyday as doing so will help to flush out the toxins in your body that cause acne and many other ailments. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and try to avoid junk foods as much as possible. Keeping your skin clean and fresh is important in preventing and treating acne but avoid the use of harsh cleansers as these will only irritate your acne further, instead only use mild soaps or facial cleansers.
