5 Great Homemade Acne Masks

It’s interesting to know that there are acne masks that you can actually make up right in your own kitchen for your own personal use. While some people would opt for the convenience of going to their local beauty store or pharmacy to get an over the counter acne mask there are people who would rather prepare their own acne products from natural ingredients that can often be found in their home pantry.

These ‘all natural’ acne masks are easy to make and are just as effective, if not more effective, than the available chemical alternative products. What’s great about these homemade concoctions is that they are high on most expert’s ‘how to get rid of acne‘ lists and secondly that you are 100% certain about what is contained in the mask that you are putting onto your skin.

A lot of the skin care products specifically formulated for treating acne contain chemical elements, these include topical applications, facial acne washes, acne masks, acne scrubs and exfoliants and facial toners among others. There are also surgical treatments that some dermatologists might recommend for those suffering with severe cases of acne. These commercially available products and treatments, however, are usually expensive. That is why people would rather search for natural ways to deal with their skin condition without clearing out their bank accounts.

So… if you want to learn how to get rid of acne then you could take a look at the following acne mask recipes that are effective and that can easily be put together and used in the comfort of your own home:

1. Salt mask – everybody has salt in their pantry. Salt is one of the most effective ingredients in drying out acne spots and wounds. Salty seawater, in fact, has been known to improve the skin’s condition. To make a salt mask, simply put cooking salt and water together in the container. Soak a pad in the water and put it on your face for about 10 to 30 minutes.
2. Baking soda – this ingredient is not only for baking or deodorizing. It can also treat acne. This mask is made by simply creating a paste with baking soda and water. The mix is then supposed to be applied on the acne spots and left for a few minutes. You can rinse your mask with water. Repeat this at least a couple of days in a week then you can start feeling your skin turn smoother and softer.
3. Yogurt mask – this is another easy mask to make with only yogurt and honey needed in the preparation. You only have to mix everything together into a smooth and even consistency before you can put it onto your skin. Leave the mixture for a few minutes to get it to room temperature and then apply on your acne affected area. Wait ten to twenty minutes before rinsing the mixture with a washcloth.
4. Oatmeal and onion mask – this mask takes a little more to make than the first three masks. This would also be a little bit funky smelling – definitely not for those who do not like the smell of onions. You will have to puree a medium sized onion, cook plain oatmeal, and then mix it together when the mixture is cooled. Apply the mixture to where you have acne and leave it on for five to fifteen minutes before you rinse it.
5. Egg white mask – this is a one-ingredient mask that requires only egg whites. Simply separate the eggs, take the whites, whisk the whites into a paste, and then apply the egg white mask and leave it for fifteen to twenty minutes. Rinse the mask off with warm water..
